OUR VETERANS NEED YOUR HELP!   The V.A. estimates that there are 130,000 veterans who are homeless today, and these men and women need your help.  We have chosen to support the activities of the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless in their efforts to end homelessness, and are asking for YOUR help to reach out to these veterans.  Please consider a donation – CLICK HERE to find out about this much-needed project!

This is more than giving a veteran a meal today.  This is about giving him or her a home tomorrow, and next year.  It’s about giving these folks the ability to rejoin our society and have one of those things you & I take for granted – a home.  If we cannot support our veterans, who can we support?

DONORS, SPONSORS and SUPPORTERS

WWII was the single largest war this planet has ever seen, involving more countries as combatants, more square miles of battleground and more soldiers and civilians killed, wounded or displaced than ever before – and possibly ever again.   This war shaped the world we grew up in, and drew many of the lines on the map we live with today.  Alliances forged in this war continue to be strong today.

Unfortunately, another generation is missing out on these facts. Consider this. . .

¨    In most if not all school districts, there are no teachers left who experienced WWII first-hand, or can relate from personal experience what happened in this war.  Those two generations have retired from teaching.

¨    In most schools, WWII is covered an only a couple of pages in the text books, if the students even get to study this part of our history.

¨    Many students cannot identify who we were fighting, or what was accomplished by the end of the War.

The mission of the Tenth Mountain Division Living History Display Group is to preserve this history and to present it in an accurate first-hand manner.  Typically presented in an outdoor venue, our exhibits offer students of all ages a chance to walk through a small Army camp – a “museum without walls” where our visitors can interact with virtually any aspect of WWII life – from field kitchen to sleeping tent – where they can learn hands-on about WWII Army life.

We also provide the communities we live in with low-cost or no-cost educational programs, designed to share that same hands-on approach to our most impressionable members of our society. Every year we provide volunteers to assist in educational programs in several states.

In all, twenty volunteers spend thousands of hours away from work and family to train, teach, help, prepare, administer and, of course, learn about the War and it’s impact on us all.  NONE of us are paid, and most of our personal gear we pay for ourselves, investing hundreds or thousands of dollars in uniforms and equipment left behind by this greatest generation.

Yet accomplishing our dual missions of preservation and community education requires money. In addition to our day to day operational costs, we have to maintain and replace transport vehicles, produce education materials, purchase artifacts and train our team members.

Most other museums and historical societies obtain funding from taxes and public budgets.  But MRA has no “mil levy”. We must solicit direct donations and apply for grants every year for the funds we use each year.

Thus we are asking for your help again. Fifty dollars can replace a damaged combat boot or replace a pack; $200 can pay fuel costs to a single exhibit; $1200 can source an original rifle or help keep one of our restored vehicles on the road.  All are helpful and necessary.  Please join our “keep skiing” campaign by giving whatever you can to help keep Tenth Mountain ready & able to reach anyone who wants to learn.  Your donation is tax deductible.

Many thanks in advance.
